Caring for an individual who lacks the ability to make decisions regarding their health and safety can be very challenging.  Anxiety regarding the welfare of loved ones increases when it is unclear who has the decision making ability.  Obtaining guardianship helps alleviate many concerns regarding who will make decisions to assure that loved ones are well cared for.       

In Sonya’s practice, she help clients determine if guardianship is necessary.  If guardianship is appropriate, she facilitates the legal process.  Often, guardianships are uncontested and the process runs smoothly.  Sometimes there is disagreement regarding who should be guardian or if a guardian is necessary.  Sonya approaches every situation with sensitivity to the needs and values of families.  While it is usually best to reach resolution outside of court, sometimes the assistance of the Judge is necessary.
