Juvenile Law

When the Department of Human Services (DHS)  intervenes and takes custody of a child, the family is often shocked and demoralized.  Despite the challenges families face, having a child removed from the family home is devastating.  It is not only difficult for the children and the parents but for grandparents, aunts, uncles and others who have cared for the children.         

In my practice, I work with parents to assist them in minimizing the intervention of DHS so that, if possible, they can effectively parent their children.  If parents are not able to care for the children, I often assist grandparents or psychological parents in asserting their rights as a placement or visitation resource for the children.  As a former social worker, I understand the difficulties families face. Whatever the difficulties are, I approach every case with understanding and compassion while asserting my client’s interests.
